We’re delighted to be announcing axle 2012, our second major release which adds a ton of requested functionality. The main new ingredients are:
1) support for tiered storage and data migration – axle now supports three tiers of storage: Editing, Parking and Archive. We have already worked with a number of key industry suppliers to qualify their storage devices, but the framework is open enough to support nearly everything out there.
2) tight integration of Telestream Episode Pro. It’s effectively a $995 add-on for axle, but brings support for making proxies from an even wider range of incoming media, as well as the ability to output new media from subclips in any number of formats that you can preset. Episode Pro also includes a slick ad-hoc clustering capability where you can add machines (each with a license, of course) to speed up your aggregate transcode throughput.
There are a bunch of other improvements in the areas of support for non-video assets, documentation, usability, bug fixes and the like. It’s shipping on the 19th, so contact us if you have any questions or want to try it out.
